Cynthia M. A. Siadat, LCSW, and Melissa Dowler are the founders of She Sees, a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to inspiring the next generation of diverse female filmmakers and empowering young women to tell their stories through film. They have been members of Fractured Atlas since 2016.

How has Fractured Atlas benefitted your artistic practice?
Fractured Atlas has allowed She Sees to have an immediate sense of credibility in the world of mentorship and non-profit work. We have been able to receive donations, both monetary and in-kind with the help of Fractured Atlas. This has made it possible for large donors to receive the benefits of their generosity for contributing to our program.

How has Fractured Atlas benefitted your revenue/income generation?
In the past 6 months, our program has accumulated over $6,000 through donations processed through our year-round funding page and through our Fundraising by Fractured Atlas crowdfunding page. Recently, this allowed us to take our young women to their first film festival in San Diego.

What specific Fractured Atlas services/programs have you used?
The main fiscal sponsorship services site and Fundraising by Fractured Atlas.

Why do you think artists and organizations should become members of Fractured Atlas?

I think it allows for artists and organizations to have both a legitimacy of infrastructure and support from Fractured Atlas, allowing them to focus on growing their craft without the hassle of trying to soldier through the financial and legal needs on their own. It is a terrific resource for us

Do you have any upcoming events that people should know about?
Next year marks year 3 of She Sees at Bethune Middle School and we will begin the next program in January! For more information on the red carpet premiere people can sign up for our mailing list at SheSees.org.

What is your biggest accomplishment as a result of being a Fractured Atlas member?
So far, we have been able to host two wildly successful programs at Bethune Middle School in South Los Angeles — each with red carpet premieres. We’ve also been able to take our young women on a field trip to celebrate their hard work after this past school year, and take them to their first film festival (the San Diego International Kids Film Festival).
