Fractured Atlas is a Supporter of Arts Advocacy Day: Here’s Why

Updates and Announcements | Public Policy | Arts

Our Robert W. Deutsch Arts & Technology Policy Fellow Courtney Duffy has the scoop on Arts Advocacy Day, which takes place in Washington, D.C. on March 7 and 8, 2016. You can follow her on Twitter @cduffy90 and track event goings on using #ArtsAdvocacyDay.

It’s that time of year again: Arts Advocacy Day is upon us! Hundreds of arts advocates from across the country have descended upon the nation’s capital to speak with a unified voice and ask Congress to support funding, programs, and policies that enrich our nation’s arts community.

Our friends at Americans for the Arts host this dynamic two-day event, which brings together more than 500 members of the arts and culture community to not only develop advocacy skills, but also to put it into practice where it matters most: here in Washington, D.C. Fractured Atlas is proud to stand alongside over 85 other national arts organizations in sponsorship of this event.

What topics will 2016 Arts Advocacy Day participants focus on, you might ask? Issues like arts education policy, the charitable tax deduction, and funding for the National Endowment for the Arts are three examples. Following a day of advocacy workshops and peer-to-peer training on Monday, participants will meet with representatives from their Congressional districts to share stories of the transformative power of the arts in their home communities. While these aren’t the signature advocacy issues of our organization, they enrich the fabric of the national arts and culture space and we’re thrilled to take part in the event in solidarity with Americans for the Arts and our other counterparts.

Even if you won’t be in D.C. for the event, your voice can be heard from home, too. Use this tool to find your representative and share your stories about the important role of the arts in your community.
