It’s hard to believe that it’s been a year and a half since I joined the Fractured Atlas team. In my first post for the organization after just a few weeks on the job, I noted a commitment to taking a “hands on” approach to incorporating artists into the political process. It has been inspiring to involve Fractured Atlas members in the policy process ever since: an official comment to the Federal Communications Commission, a Capitol Hill event on the Maker Movement (pictured), a 3D printing & the Arts policy panel at 3D/DC, and more.
Throughout the fellowship, I’ve had the pleasure of working from the Washington, D.C. office of Public Knowledge, a public interest group that fights for consumer rights on technology policy issues. Public Knowledge is committed to grooming the next generation of grassroots advocates, and I’ve been surrounded by talented interns, externs, and fellows (pictured below, with Public Knowledge President Gene Kimmelman). The PK team has embraced opportunities to involve Fractured Atlas artists in these federal discussions.
