NYSCA 2020: Information for Fiscally Sponsored Projects in New York

Written by Theresa Hubbard | February 11, 2019

Attention artists and arts organizations across New York State: the 2020 New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) application opened today! Before I share Fractured Atlas’s timeline, let’s go over some important details about the application process and eligibility:

  • The application is made up of three major parts: 1) a Sponsored Request Form (SRF), 2) Consolidated Funding Application, and 3) supporting materials.
  • Fractured Atlas must submit all documents on behalf of our fiscally-sponsored projects, so we appreciate you adhering to our internal timeline to give us time to review your materials thoroughly and submit them on your behalf.
  • Due to the volume of requests we handle every year, Fractured Atlas fiscally-sponsored projects will only be permitted to submit one application (regardless of NSYCA’s two-request limit).
  • If you applied in the Individual Artist category (IND) last year, you must sit out this year.
  • Your grant application must be for activities that take place between January 1 — December 31, 2020.

Applying for a NYSCA grant is a multi-step process.

Step 1: Determine Eligibility. Please complete Fractured Atlas’s Eligibility Quiz. All eligibility quizzes must be submitted to us by Tuesday, March 5, 2019. Click here to review which disciplines are eligible for NYSCA funding using a fiscal sponsor.

Note: You must have reached Fractured Atlas’s $1,000 grant eligibility requirement before applying for NYSCA funding.

Step 2: Set-up Google Folder. Once we determine eligibility for one of NYSCA’s funding opportunities, we’ll create a shared Google folder for you containing the required application materials. In this folder, you’ll find the Sponsored Request Form, a checklist of the items needed from you to complete the application, and any other materials needed to complete the application.

Note: If you’d like to begin the SRF prior to us setting up a Google folder, it can be downloaded from your specific program’s guidelines.

Step 3: Submit Completed Materials. Once the Sponsored Request Form, supplemental materials, and any other required materials are complete, please upload them to your shared Google folder and email us letting us know they’re ready for review. All materials should be uploaded to your shared Google folder by Tuesday, March 12, 2019. This allows us time to review the application and provide feedback, as necessary.

Note: We will not automatically check the folder on March 12th, so it is imperative that you send an email when you’re ready for us to take a look at the materials. We use a shared folder because some of the files you’ll send could be too large to transfer by email. If you do not have a G Suite-supported email address, please let us know and we’ll figure out a different solution.

Step 3 will take a lot of time for both you and the fiscal sponsorship staff to complete, so we’re asking for your portion to be done at least 2 weeks prior to Fractured Atlas’s goal submission date.

Please plan ahead and mark your calendars now with the dates below.

Here’s the Fractured Atlas timeline for NYSCA this year*:

  • February 11, 2019: NYSCA registration and application open.
  • March 5, 2019: Fractured Atlas deadline for Eligibility Quiz.
  • March 12, 2019: Fractured Atlas deadline for Sponsored Request Form, supplemental materials, and any other required documents.
  • March 26, 2019: Fractured Atlas’s goal for submitting all proposals to NYSCA. In order to minimize technical difficulties, we are aiming to submit all proposals to NYSCA by this date.
  • March 28, 2019: NYSCA Deadline 4pm.

Please keep in mind that this will be a multi-step process, so you should not wait until the last minute to complete it! We will charge a $75 rush fee if you miss our any of our internal deadlines. We’ll be happy to answer any questions and we appreciate your help in making this process easier on everyone. Good luck!
