NYSCA 2018: Information for Fiscally Sponsored Projects in New York

Attention artists and arts organizations in New York State: the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) has posted guidelines for its 2018 funding cycle! Before I share Fractured Atlas’s timeline, let’s go over some important details about the application process and eligibility:

• The application is made up of three major parts: 1) a Sponsored Request Form (SRF), 2) Grants Gateway project and budget information, and 3) supporting materials.
• Fractured Atlas must submit all documents on behalf of our fiscally sponsored projects through our own Grants Gateway portal, so we appreciate you adhering to our internal timeline to give us time to review your materials thoroughly and submit them on your behalf.
• Due to the volume of requests we handle every year, Fractured Atlas fiscally sponsored projects will only be permitted to submit one application (regardless of NSYCA’s two-request limit).
• If you applied in the Individual Artist category (IND) last year, you must sit out this year.
• Your grant application must be for activities that take place between January 1 — December 31, 2018.

Applying for a NYSCA grant is a multi-step process.

Step 1: Please contact our staff to let us know you’re interested in applying for NYSCA, and include which NYSCA discipline and category you’d like to apply under.

Step 2: We’ll send you a form to complete containing registration information for NYSCA’s website. Along with our conversations with you, this registration form will help us to determine your eligibility through for the application discipline and category you’ve identified. All registrations must be complete by Friday, February 24.

Note: This is different from years past, as we will no longer require you to complete a pre-registration eligibility survey.

Step 3: Once you are registered in NYSCA’s system, we’ll send you the Sponsored Request Form to complete and return to us. This form is a fillable PDF that you can complete and return to us by email. At this time, the Fractured Atlas assigned to your application will also create a shared Google folder for you where you can store your application materials.

Note: If you’d like to begin the SRF sooner, it can be downloaded from your specific program’s guidelines.

Step 4: Once the Sponsored Request Form, Grants Gateway document, and supplemental materials are complete, please upload them to your shared Google folder and email us letting us know they’re ready for review. All materials should be uploaded to your shared Google folder by Tuesday, March 7th, allowing us 2 weeks to correspond with you if we have any questions.

Note: We will not automatically check the folder on March 7th, so it is imperative that you email us when you’re ready for us to take a look at the materials. We’d like to use a shared folder because some of the files you’ll send could be too large to transfer by email. If you do not have a G Suite-supported email address, please let us know and we’ll figure out a different solution.

Step 4 will take a lot of time for both you and the fiscal sponsorship staff to complete, so we’re asking for your portion to be done at least 2 weeks prior to NYSCA’s deadline.

Here’s the Fractured Atlas timeline for NYSCA this year*:

February 14, 2017: NYSCA registration and application open.
February 24, 2017: Fractured Atlas deadline to register to apply.
March 7, 2017: Fractured Atlas deadline for Sponsored Request Form, Grants Gateway document, and supplemental materials.
March 21, 2017: NYSCA Deadline 4pm
