Introducing the Artist Opportunity Database!
The way we are bringing artist opportunities to your attention is changing.
Sometimes change is difficult. But change can also bring about welcome improvements. If you’re a working artist, you probably know that receiving a fellowship or residency can feel like a breath of fresh air, but applying for an opportunity takes time and effort — jolting your daily routine. In the moment, change can be difficult, but it can also become exactly what you needed. I’ve been compiling monthly lists of artist opportunities on this blog for over three years now and boy, was it time for a change.
Many of you have told me that the Grants and Opportunities series is helpful, which has given me fuel to make these (lengthy!) monthly lists as useful as I can. While I strive to gather a diverse collection of artist opportunities for you to peruse (and pursue!) each month, I’ve had trouble keeping up. As spiriting as it is to know that more and more artist opportunities come out of the woodwork when you have someone actively looking for them, the reality is that there is only so much one person can do. But now, with the spankin’ new Artist Opportunity Database, no longer will any incredible artist opportunities need to be left on the cutting room floor (because databases don’t have floors nowadays).
👋 goodbye blog post, hello database
Sometimes, something in its current iteration ceases to be helpful. With lots of help, I’ve spent the last couple of months working to level up the Grants and Opportunities series. Instead of monthly blog posts with lengthy, unfilterable lists, I am thrilled to present to you a searchable database, jam packed with the grants and opportunities you have been accustomed to finding — only now you will hopefully be able to find your fit much more easily. And with this change comes a nice, new name: the Artist Opportunity Database.
🏵️ what has changed?
-
-
Instead of monthly blog posts on Inciter Art, artist opportunities will live in the Artist Opportunity Database.
- You can filter by discipline, region, eligibility, application fee, and due date or browse all the opportunities in a nice, long list (if you’re feeling nostalgic).
- You can browse through an archive of nearly 2,000 past opportunities, which can enable you to find organizations that interest you and plan your application calendar ahead of schedule.
- Have an artist opportunity that you’d like to share with our audiences? We now have a handy-dandy submission form.
-
🪨 what stays the same?
-
-
If you’re accustomed to being notified via email about new opportunities at the top of every month, you will continue to be notified via email. No action necessary! If you don't email notifications and would like to be, sign up for our newsletter here.
- Opportunities will still be highlighted twice a month on our Instagram page.
- The database will still be regularly updated with new opportunities.
-
So what are you waiting for? Artist opportunities with September 2025 deadlines have just been added to the new database, so check it out! We hope that this change brings improved readability and usefulness, along with exciting opportunities that catch your eye. Good luck, and happy filtering!
