Throughout most of its existence, the voices that comprised Inciter Art were primarily those of Fractured Atlas staff. More recently, we eagerly held the door ajar through seasonal and topical open calls, as well as commissioning specific writers whose work we wanted to learn more about. **Starting this winter, I am pleased to announce that we are opening the gates wider, and they are staying open all year round, with the** [**Inciter Art pitch form**](https://fracturedatlas.notion.site/3cf23f9f3dc880bd91dbfbe1a70df620)**!**

To usher in this new era, **we will hold themed open calls every quarter.** Anyone with a desire to contribute an article for Inciter Art as part of the quarterly theme (or outside of it) should fill out the pitch form to submit their article idea.

We want to feature your voices, your stories, your original work. As we continue to ask big questions and dig deeper into the lives of working artists, we invite you, the working artists themselves, to help answer those questions, and ask other big ones. Let us into how you view the world.

 

## How will this work?

If you are interested in writing an article for Inciter Art, all you have to do is fill out the [Inciter Art pitch form](https://fracturedatlas.notion.site/3cf23f9f3dc880bd91dbfbe1a70df620). Read the form thoroughly and answer all the required questions. You will notice within the pitch form where you can indicate whether you are submitting an idea for the themed open call or as a standalone pitch.

 

## How does this all differ from past open calls like the Arts Worker Horror Story open call?

Selected creators from past open calls for [arts worker horror stories](https://blog.fracturedatlas.org/open-call-for-arts-worker-horror-story-writer), [artist love letters](https://www.instagram.com/p/DGD7qRog_xS/?img_index=1), and [financial diary vloggers](https://www.instagram.com/p/DTROGdCjMTr/?img_index=1), have all been randomly selected from the submission pool. For this process, every submission received on the pitch form will be read by a small group of Fractured Atlas staff, who will then make up to three selections per quarter.

 

## What is the selection process like?

We are drawn to pitches that come from your own experience as an artist or arts worker, tell us something we haven’t heard before or say a familiar thing in a new way, leave us wanting to read more, and fit with what we’re already publishing for the quarter. Everyone who submits will hear back from us.

 

## What is this quarter’s theme?

When the stakes are high and the world is frigid, what are we willing to show up for? Who warms you up, and how do you help stoke their fires? This upcoming season is for generosity, solidarity, and collective investment in the invisible infrastructure behind creative work. The world may be dark and cold, but the work continues. What do we choose to keep alive? The theme for the winter open call is: **tending to the hearth** 🔥🔥🔥

 

## Is there a deadline?

Yes and no. **There is a deadline for the themed open call: Monday, November 2nd, 2026, at 11:59pm ET.** However, our pitch form is always open, so any submissions received past this open call’s deadline will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

 

## Do I have to pay a fee to submit?

## What happens if I am selected?

Congrats! You will be notified by email 1 week after the open call deadline, and you’ll have 4 weeks to write a first draft. Our editorial team will provide revisions and edits, and your final draft will be due 1 week after the first draft is submitted. Your piece will be published on Inciter Art and shared across our newsletter and Instagram, credited to you, of course. You will also receive a $750 stipend. Spend it all in one place if you so desire!
